Falling for Fall in Upstate New York

Fall is officially upon us!

As a historical bed and breakfast, we are passionate about all things local and upstate New York just happens to be the epicenter of autumn adventures.

During a cozy fall stay at The Inn at Stony Creek, apple and pumpkin picking are nearby!

Some of our favorite orchards have a little extra something to do including live music, activities for kids and home made baked goods fresh from the farm.

Apple Ridge Orchards

Warwick, NY

Known as the Hudson Valley’s most scenic orchard experience, this is the perfect local stop for a weekend away soaking in the full experience of the upstate NY fall season. Bring your camera and get some awesome shots of changing leaves and the field of pumpkins for some sweet autumn memories. When going to pick pumpkins, there’s a flat rate so you’ll never overpay for that great pumpkin Charlie Brown!

Masker Orchards

Warwick, NY

If you’re looking for a great big bag of hand picked new york apples, look no further than Masker Orchards right here in Warwick. They have homemade apple cider donuts and fresh baked apple pie you won’t want to pass up. Visit Masker’s country store and pick up some quality local products like jams, sauces and honeys to take back to the inn to go with your morning breakfast.

Och’s Orchard

Warwick, NY

Och’s Orchard has a great selection of “pick your own” seasonal produce and a fully stocked farmer’s market open seven days a week. They have an amazing selection of local and farm-made products. Their dedication to freshness and variety have made Och’s a Warwick family tradition. Pick some apples and pumpkins, enjoy some fresh cider and check out their livestock roaming the farm. Och’s is a must see for the Hudson Valley fall season.

Pennings Orchard

Warwick, NY

Pennings Orchard is open seven days a week through the autumn picking season, giving everyone an opportunity to get to the farm for a day of fresh produce and some family fun. Pennings is a hit with the kids once they see the hayrides, activities and kiddie maze to play in. They have a stunning view of the valley and you can even book “Hoedown” packages with them featuring the panoramic view and several menus to choose from. This is a fun stop for any age, with plenty of rustic charm.

There’s plenty of fall adventures to be had during your stay at the Inn this fall.

We invite the cool crisp weather and the vibrant beautiful colors of this amazing place to live, stay and play in Upstate New York.

Warwick’s local hospitality will have you feeling cozy and ready to start this year’s holiday season.

August to Autumn

Located in Warwick, New York

This August, the Inn At Stony Creek enjoyed some beautiful rest and relaxation. We welcomed new and old friends to stay and spent the sunny days in the gardens and soaking in the sunshine on the patio.

We’re proud of our garden and the tomato crop this season was nothing short of amazing! Bill and Joe brought in an impressive basket of tomatoes that will be a delicious addition to some home cooked meals at the inn.

Although our tomatoes will be a welcome staple in our family style dinners, we looked back at some of the stunning breakfasts to leave the Stony Creek kitchen.

“I loved staying in the Lexington Room. Sitting out there in the private patio after the delicious breakfast, just reading and sitting with my husband. Listening to the geese, ducks and water. No place to rush to, just a perfect getaway.” -Audrey Hirsch

Thank you Audrey for your heartfelt review, it really captures the charm and spirit of a visit to the Inn At Stony Creek.

The gardens were in full bloom and some of our resident animals couldn’t be happier to soak in some sunshine. There’s something soothing about the relaxed ambient sound of the gardens to make you forget the hustle and bustle of the work week.

This was a beautiful summer kickoff at the Inn at Stony Creek.

The gardens are in bloom and everything is absolutely buzzing with the sights and sounds of Hudson Valley Summer.

We celebrated a star spangled Fourth of July at the Inn, feeling patriotic and as proud as ever to protect our slice of New York and Hudson Valley history here.

We had another wonderful wedding at the Inn at Stony Creek. Congratulations Jerry and Debra.

We also reminisced on a wedding from 2 years ago at the Inn, Happy Anniversary to Matthew and Austin Shauger.

Wake Up and Smell the Roses | Inn at Stony Creek June Recap

We had a beautiful June at the Inn this year. Our gardens were looking spectacular just in time for the annual Countryside Garden Tour to close this month with outstanding community support for local charity.

Check out this beautiful shot of the rose garden at the Inn at Stony Creek taken by Yellow Jacket Social.

The tour through the Stony Creek gardens was a huge success and we appreciate everyone who took the time to view our landscape and celebrate the start of summer with us. We are anxiously awaiting next year’s tour, with bigger brighter blooms and even more local support.

We had some fantastic guests stay with us this month and had the opportunity to dine together during our spaghetti night, which is always a hit. Sometimes the best way to relax is to make new friends and fill up on a great meal that includes your family sauce recipe. Nothing says home quite like a big homemade dinner eaten together.

2016-06-04 18.55.20

June was alive this month and with the gardens perfectly arranged and resident wildlife, it was an exceptional way to spend vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the workweek. There is no such thing as strangers at the Inn, it’s easy to become part of the family during your stay.

2016-05-07 10.49.20

Alongside all the summer celebrations this month, we are sad to announce the loss of a beloved Stony Creek family member. A very familiar sight at the inn, our resident bird, Papagallo or “Poppy” as she came to be known, passed away  on the 16th of June. She lived a long life of 56 years warming our hearts, and she will surely be missed.

Poppy is survived by her fun and adventurous pal, Mykonos.

We hope to see you soon as we welcome the sunshine, and warm laughter of friends this July at the inn.  After all it’s summertime and the livin’ is easy.

Here we are again, at the end of the month and enjoying the monthly wrap ups because it allows us to share all of our favorite things happening here at the Inn at Stony Creek.

Warwick is buzzing with tourism as more people are venturing up from the city to the Hudson Valley. One of the main spring time attractions in the area is the upcoming 23rd Annual Countryside Garden Tour and we are delighted that our organic garden is now a part of it. We mentioned the tour in our March recap but now as more details are available consider this your reminder! The tour will take place on June 25th from 9am to 5pm.

This Garden Tour is a fundraiser event to benefit programs throughout our community and help maintain selected gardens within the area. You can read more about this event and others on the Warwick Valley Gardeners website.

This past month we had a very special visitor here at the Inn at Stony Creek, the wonderfully talented Sophie Gamand. Sophie is a French award-winning photographer who’s focus is primarily on dogs. Her work is astounding and you can read all about her projects and the stories behind them on her website here.

Sophie was visiting Warwick to do some photography for the Warwick Humane Society and during her stay she captured these two beautiful images of our own animal friends. Mykonos is our 28 year old Cockatoo and Papagallo is our 56 year old Amazon Parrot.

If you are in the area and interested in adopting a pet of your own, contact the Warwick Humane Society. You can visit their website to find bios of all the animals currently available for adoption or stop on by their facility, they are open 7 days a week!

We have been busy adding finishing touches on the Inn at Stony Creek so here are some more behind the scenes of our spring cleaning.

Inn Season: March Recap Blog

Promotional photos taken of the landscape and decor of the Warwick, New York bed & breakfast

March is already over! Easter has passed and we have certainly been busy upon our return from vacation.

When Joe and Bill got back from Hawaii, there was lots to be done to get the Inn at Stony Creek freshened up for the next season. Once we got that out of the way, we couldn’t wait to reopen our freshly painted doors to our guests.

Inn at Stony Creek

Those guests were plenty, 20 in fact. Honored to have been part of such a special evening, we hosted a birthday celebration for Beverly. Here is a glimpse of Joe in his chef whites about to present the first course. This dish was composed of strawberries, blueberries, glazed walnuts and goat cheese on a bed of greens drizzled with a blood orange-fig balsamic vinaigrette made in house! There is a lot of attention to detail that Joe puts into his dishes and we were thrilled at the lovely responses we got from all of our party guests.

We do host a few special events throughout the year and the Inn at Stony Creek is a wonderful setting for a party of up to 60 guests. With the open outdoor spaces, breathtaking views of Mount Adam and our own caterer, we can accommodate your needs to create lasting memories. If you are looking to book your own party and would like to discuss further details please contact us.

The Easter Bunny left little peeps for us this year in our Easter basket…how about you?! Welcome these baby chicks to the Inn at Stony Creek!

Did you have the chance to bring the kids down to the Easter Egg Hunt at Pennings Farm? What a fun way to spend time with your family!

If you are in the area, we recommend you head on over to Pennings Farm Garden Center and see what beautiful things they have blooming in the spring.

With the warmer weather, come enjoy the outdoors right here at the Inn at Stony Creek. We are set on 9 sprawling acres with trails for hiking and biking. Our gardens will be in full bloom soon! Come wander through the paths and even visit our chicken coop. Here are some wonderful shots (including our main image) from last year captured by That Werks Photography.

We are so proud to announce that our organic garden will be part of the Warwick Garden Tour this year! There will be more information coming soon so make sure to check back with us at the Inn at Stony Creek for all the details!

While we patiently wait for the season to really get into full swing, there is still plenty to do here at the Inn even if that means just sitting back and relaxing by the fireplace and enjoying a quiet evening. If you are interested in booking a room, please contact us by phone or through our online reservation system. Find us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram for latest news and local happenings here at the Inn at Stony Creek!

Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring!

February has been mighty kind to us here in the Hudson Valley. We had a pretty mild winter considering what this month usually brings us. The Inn at Stony Creek is gearing up for spring but first we want to take a look back at the past month and share some memories and fill you in on upcoming events in and around Warwick NY.

We hope Valentine’s Day was as special for you as it was for us here at the Inn at Stony Creek. Bill and Joe took a little trip post Valentine’s Day to Hawaii to have some down time to ourselves! It was so enjoyable but we are ready to be back at the Inn and ready for that warmer weather here!

Inn at Stony CReek Month Recap

We also did a little updating at the Inn at Stony Creek. Fresh paint colors, new upholstery and fabrics! We are all set for another year!

Inn At Stony Creek

This March is your chance to get in some last bits of tubing, snowboarding and skiing at Mount Peter Ski Area here in Warwick. (Now is also the time to buy your Pre-Season Pass for the 2016-2017 Season!)

If you’re visiting, we suggest heading down to Pennings Farm Market for Chef Oscar’s Fish Fry 4:00pm to 9:00pm EVERY Friday night through March 25th! Bring the entire family and enjoy fish and chips, fresh seafood specials and live music. This is so fun for the whole family and located about 10 minutes from the Inn at Stony Creek.  They have a variety of events happening all month long which you can check out on their website here.

Speaking of food, did you know that Hudson Valley Restaurant Week is coming? March 7th to March 20th restaurants all around the valley will be hosting restaurant week and offering specials and pre-fixe menus. Although we love to cook for our guests, we also love to hit the local spots to go out to eat. Here are some restaurants in the Warwick area that Joe and Bill love…

(image: Grapparistorante.com)

Grappa Ristorante is great for an Italian dinner and head over to their Wine Bar and Martini Lounge, La Piazza for great music, drinks and tapas!

The Grange Restaurant and Local Market is also worth stopping by. They just reopened after a small winter break. The Grange offers local farm to table seasonal dishes, soups, sandwiches and has a market that sells local jams, honeys, meats and all sorts of things to bring back home with you.

(image: TripAdvisor.com)

The Landmark Inn is a beautiful fine dining restaurant that is located just one mile north of the Village of Warwick and operates out of a 236 year old country inn. They are participants in HVRW but a great place to visit any night of the week.

For dessert, we are waiting as patiently as we can for April 1st when Bellvale Farms Creamery opens back up.  You don’t have to wait that long though, head over to Jean Claude’s for cakes, cookies and other sweet treats.

January Recap

The Inn at Stony Creek started off 2016 the right way here in Warwick and we hope you did too. We wanted to share some wonderful things that have been happening here throughout the month of January and catch up before February comes.

Inn at Stony Creek

Just a week into the New Year and love was certainly in the air. We were privileged to have Chris and Katelyn join us for a romantic getaway weekend at the Inn at Stony Creek which turned out to be even more special than we could’ve imagined. Chris asked Katelyn for her hand in marriage. We were so happy to witness such a special moment and wish them all the best of luck. (Check here for wedding packages.)

Inn at Stony Creek

To match this chilly weather, Joe has prepared for you his favorite winter soup recipe so you can stay warm and cozy wherever you are (as long as it has a kitchen). This delicious recipe is perfect comfort food for a cold winter day. You might even be able to make a special request for your upcoming visit to the Inn at Stony Creek.

Joe’s Pasta Fagioli
1 lb of lean ground beef or I prefer ground turkey
1-2 tbsp. of olive oil
1 carrot diced
1 stalk of celery diced
1 med. Onion diced
1 tsp. minced garlic
1 32 oz. btl. of tomato juice cocktail
1 14 oz. can of chicken broth (low salt)
1 tbsp. Each of dried oregano, parsley and basil
Ground black pepper to taste
2 cups of uncooked ditalini pasta
1 15 oz. can of cannellini beans rinsed and drained
1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef/turkey in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Set meat aside in a bowl.
2. Heat olive oil in the same large saucepan over medium-high heat; saute carrot, celery, and onion until softened, 5 to 10 minutes. Add garlic and saute until fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes. Stir tomato juice cocktail, chicken broth, parsley, basil, oregano, and black pepper into vegetable mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer soup for 20 minutes.
3. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook ditalini pasta in the boiling water, stirring occasionally until cooked through but firm to the bite, 8 minutes. Drain.
4. Stir cannellini beans and ground beef/turkey into soup; cook and stir until soup is heated through, about 10 minutes.
5. Spoon about 1/3 cup pasta into each serving bowl; ladle soup over pasta.
Made this soup? Hashtag #stonycreeksoup and tag us @innatstonycreek so we can see all of your culinary creations!
Don’t forget Valentine’s Day is approaching fast and you should book your reservations now before time runs out! For full details about rooms and accommodations check our website. We look forward to your visit!
